HEPA (Human Ecology Practical Area) Farmer Field School (FFS) is a pioneering training dedicated to strengthen indigenous youth. HEPA FFS lies at the heart of the 6 inter-thematic networks action of Mekong Community Network Action for Ecological Trading (MECO-ECOTRA).
Overuse of resources and the lack of a caring attitude towards Human-Nature relationships in many sensitive watershed ecosystems have been the major causes leading to land desertification problems, gradual erosion of social traditions, and the losses of ecological biodiversity.

Spring is a good season to grow vegetable in FFS-HEPA. In order to gain well from this season, farm managers, staff and workers have grown trees (fruit trees, coffee, forest trees), various kinds of vegetables (cabbages, egg plants, amaranths, spice vegetables), and grew and took care of food crops (peanut, sweet potato, taro). This activity is also to increase the yield, promote work efficiency on the farm, and to share experiences among farmers. FFS-HEPA organizes rotational community work between farms every Wednesday with the participation of all member of every farm. The results show that community work is a good way to deal with limited labor here; after a work day, a lot of necessary work on the farms has been done.
